8:00 AM. $6.75. 89 grade. 200 LBS. The world revolves around numbers above all else. Money. Time. Grades. Facebook friends. Weight. Our lives are measured in numbers. What do you suppose the world would be like if we began measuring in something else? What would we measure in, though? Perhaps kindness. Or happiness. Or friendship. The problem with measuring in anything these things is that they are intangible. We cannot physically trade these things from one hand to another or right down an exact amount of them. They are concepts. What is more powerful - $10 or a heart of gold? Unfortunately, in today’s world, $10 would take you further on an ordinary day. People can see and touch money. They cannot touch your kindness. However, your kindness CAN touch them. Sometimes it can be discouraging. The weight saying a number too high. Your bank statement saying a number too low. Your clock saying a time too late. Your report card saying grades too low. All of these things can frustrate us. What I am striving to remember, however, is that numbers are not everything. I can’t measure my kindness, love, or happiness, but why would I need to? Why measure it, when I can share it?
